Even though rice milk is widely available, it is much better if you can make it at home; especially since it is incredibly easy to do! Ordinarily, ready-made rice milk contains too much sugar and we have no way of knowing what type of rice has been used or how exactly it has been processed. Additionally, when making milk at home you can use different types of rice; keep in mind that brown, wild or red rice are more nutritious varieties. So, let’s get creating!

Begin by preparing the rice. Wash the grains twice over under running water and then leave them to soak for 1 - 3 hours in slightly salted water. Cook the rice in a fresh, unsalted, portion of water.
Place the rice and water in a blender and mix until a smooth consistency is reached. Strain the milk through a sieve and, if you wish, add a little maple syrup and cinnamon. Mix everything together and consume as you see fit, for instance by itself, as a separate ingredient, with some muesli etc.
You can add any other natural sugar, such as honey, agave syrup and so on! You could also use vanilla, turmeric, cardamom etc. to spice up the milk and to further enrich its nutritional value.
